Booth's Bismuth Mine

The story of Booth’s Bismuth Mine began in October of 1849 when Ephraim Lane leased eight acres on lands of Arnold Hurd. Here contained a deposit of native bismuth, bismuthinite, and bismite. Other minerals included graphite, pyrrhotite, and even sphalerite. During the 1890’s, the mine was reopened after some period of abandonment and was known to be worked again in the 1920’s. However, it was operated only on a small scale.

Although the variety of minerals were rich, interesting, and unusual, the quantity of the ore could just justify substantial mining. The workings consist of an adit tunnel and digging at the surface. It is not known how much ore was shipped from Booth’s Bismuth Mine.
