Cranberry Mine
The Cranberry Mine, a part of the Hudson Highlands group of mines, is a
magnetite mine consisting of a fairly large stoped cavity with a side tunnel.
The floor of the adit averages about 12 feet wide, while the ceiling for
the stoped chamber averages around 20 - 25 feet high in most places. Some
narrow gauge rails and other remains are still present from the former railroad
inside of the mine.
Above the mine, on top of the hill, there is a shaft which is about 20 feet
deep. Nearby are two other pits which are presumed to have been exploratory
in nature. Near the entrance to the mine, foundations of old buildings are
still evident from the original mining operation.
