The Phillips Mine was most actively worked for sulfur. The chief ore was
pyrrhotite but pyrite and chalcopyrite were closely associated with it.
Examination by mine researchers was unable to determine the scope of iron
mining as the only interior workings accessible indicated sulfur mining.
The inclined shaft is seen here to the right. This leads directly into
a large underground stope where most of the mining took place. Nearby is
a vertical shaft.
