Pine Swamp Mine

The Pine Swamp Mine was opened around 1830 and worked until permanently closing in 1880 but not continuously. The mine was owned by Robert and Peter Parrott with the Parrott Iron Company and the ore was shipped to the Clove and Greenwood furnaces. Ore from this mine was used in the construction of the famous Parrott Gun.

The principal working is a large stope entered at ground level from an open trench working. As the vein is worked southwest along the strike, it pitches upward as it enters the hillside. The dip is approximately 80 degrees and the stope cavity appears to be 25 feet in vertical height. Within the open cut is a shaft of unknown depth and to the northeast, a filled in shaft.
