Sackett Mine

Located just southwest of the large Sunk Mine, the Sackett
Mine also works the 7 mile long Philips belt. Here, the ore
body is offset by a transverse fault by a distance of 50 to 75
feet. The mine was owned and operated along with Sunk
by the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company.

The workings consist of an open cut that follows the strike as
it outcropped on the surface as well as underground
development. An inclined shaft reportedly 75 feet in depth
was sunk southwest into the 4-5 foot wide orebody. The
extent of this portion of the mine is not known and the shaft is
entirely flooded, preventing inspection. The Sackett Mine
ceased operations by 1880.
