Shortly after, a mill was erected and the mine was worked continuously from
1929 onward with a brief shutdown period in 1932 through 1933.
The orebody dipped approximately 55 degrees southeast and averaged 25 feet
in width. Its breadth was 1,650 feet in height and was worked via six levels
averaging 5,000 feet in length by 1954. The levels were connected via inclined
raises with sublevels. By 1966, the mine totaled ten working levels. The
ore mined was largely magnetite but also present was crystalline hematite
encompassing as much as 15% of the total orebody.
The four compartment Ross Shaft is picture here in the 1940's at the
Scrub Oaks Mine. This was the principal opening into the mine during this
time.
