Additional shaft sinking reportedly totalling 530 feet failed to locate ore. The Westchester Copper Mine company introduced miners from Cornwall, England under the guidance of Joseph Tregaskis. Around 1860, Kemeys refurbished the shaft with the intent of continuing mining but this effort was abandoned soon afterward. Maps indicated the mine's existence up until 1881 but it is not known whether further mining was attempted.
