Tar Hill Mine

Opened some time prior to 1855, the Tar Hill Mine constitutes the remainder of an ore bearing belt shared with the Sulphur Hill Mine. The mine operated from 1867 until 1873 after which time it is thought to have been inactive. In 1880, an adit was blasted in preparation for underground stoping. The tunnel penetrated a lean ore containing garnet. While some ore was removed from the tunnel, it was likely unprofitable to mine and the operations ceased permanently thereafter.

During the mine's active period, six shafts were sunk in addition to open pit workings and a stope entrance. Notable minerals included epidote, calcite, pyrrhotite and garnet. The adit does not connect with any of the shafts.
