Green Mine

The Green Mine was opened as early as 1853 on lands of I.S. Green. Three deposits of magnetite ore were worked ranging from one to four feet in thickness. By 1863, operations were carried on to the southwest of the three original openings on the site. Between 1868 and 1879, the mine was not in operation. In 1880 the Thomas Iron Company reopened the Green Mine, operated it briefly, then resumed operations in 1887. In 1888, the mine was permanently abandoned.

The ore was shipped to the Wawayanda Furnace as along with ore from the nearby Wawayanda Mine. Today, three shafts can be seen, with two having been filled in. Also on site are the remains of a mule barn.
