Lewis Mine

The Lewis Mine was worked on property owned by the Lewis family who lived and farmed here. The mine was likely in operation during the late 19th century but it was certainly not an ambitious one. The principal working consists of an open trench leading to a short adit where very little actual mining took place underground. The dumps contain a rich magnetite ore but it is not known why the mine was not worked further and what the impurities in the ore might have been.

No information is available as to the total production at this mine as a minute amount would have been shipped.
