The Red Bridge or Spring Glen Mine is a relatively old operation having been first worked in 1836. It was operated by the North American Coal & Mining Company. The mine was explored via four tunnels, two shafts, and open pit excavations. A vein containing the ore minerals galena and sphalerite was intersected but apparently no ore was shipped.
In 1840, the mine was abandoned and little if any further development work was done thereafter. One adit remains well preserved but flooded.
The mine's more recent claim to fame has been its quartz crystals, some of which have been featured in notable mineral collections.
