hey, i think our next project should be the flat car. im going to see if i can get it in the shop next to the mine motor to complete. i have everything we need to finnish it except the wood for the side frames. we used it to make the bumpers for the motor. i think we should build that first since we will need it to extend the rail. well we dont need it but we can use it to put the rail on and push along as we lay it. good stuff. figure the motor will be back on the rail next season so we should have it extened by then. and we can use the flat car for this. also going to get a hold of the guy in honesdale with that small steam train and hudson motor. he has a switch for us. i want to get that in also before we extend the rail so we can put the mantrip and coal car somewhere. but i think the mantrip should be the next priority. since we are doing good on the motor, if we have a few guys at the shop, we can use a few on the motor project and the others on the flat car. the we rebuilt the coal car in one day. cut it apart in the morning and fit the new wood in the afternoon. i already cut all the parts off the flat car so all we need to do is get the wood and bolt it together. we'll see when we can get it inside i guess.

talked to banks and adam about this. we will work on the motor next week again and we will clean up the shop some more........ banks was mysteriously absent last time when we cleaned up shop. we will take the truck bedliners that are there and stack them all up to free up some room, then move them over against one side. even if we just clean up all the junk in there that will give us enough room for at least one more car. once all the bed liners are gone i have no doubt we can fit another car inside there besides the flat car. then we bring over the wooden cars from 179.

yeah, you could definatly get the flatt car in there, and get it done to use it to lay track with. then do the cars from 179 at the same time becasue they're smaller

Maybe you should post some pictures of the flat car for all too see!

What size wood do you need as you are getting a saw mill to cut the wood?

ah yes, today we transported most of the parts for the flat car to the shop. when we got there we were greeted with a pleasant suprize. the shop had been cleaned and they made room for our new addition to the shop. so we unloaded the parts and began work. we also did a little work on the motor. i need to take the torches over dads and take the draw bar off the top plate, and cut the old bolts off it. then we can move the rest of it over. im getting the quote tomorow for the wood so if its good, he will cut it by the weekend and we can start work framing it up next week. good stuff.

forgot to mention the wood sizes you asked about. the side frame and end pieces are 8 1/2 inches by 6 inches and 10 feet long, the bumpers are 6x6s and im getting 20- 4x4s that i will make 40 ties out of for the track. its all rough cut, probably oak, if not maple. he wasnt sure if he had enough oak and said it will probably be maple.

got the wood today. banks and i picked it up and dropped it off at the shop. also i had some rod and square nuts left over from the coal car. probably will have enough to do the flat car too so we dont have to get any hardware. cool stuff.
