well kids got the flat car really looking like a mine car now! its definatly a low seam car thats for sure :D i bet our backs will hurt pushing rail around on this baby! anyways, work got started late today since we did that story with the reporter with the local paper there. from the way it sounded its going to be pretty good. their issues come out on wed, and sun. so they are shooting for next wed. ill post a link then. but thats another topic, i bet one more day and the flat car will be done. all that will remain will be one more trip to the mill to make the planks for the side stakes and boards.

she is lookin good. i think im going to change its name to a stake side car since thats what it really is. there are removable sides that fasten with stakes through pockets. although ours are slightly tight and might not be so "removable" anyways it looks great and i cant wait until we do the next one. a wooden coal car.
pics coming soon

If you don't "stake" the sides in, then does it become a flat car?

why yes it does, however our stakes are a bit "tight" in fact it may take a nuclear blast to get them back out again. i think if i put the bottle jack under it and push it up they may come out. then grease them before sticking them back in. however with it getting hotter and getting more humid the wood will swell and make it even harder to get out. oh well......

well brought her home today. took about 2 hours to get it loaded, drive home then unload. of course we had to push it back and fourth a few times  tomorrow we are laying more rail. its rail laying monday of course! so, it will come in good use moving rail and ties around the yard so we dont have to carry them.
