well guys this winter we will be building a mine car for us. its going to be a wooden mine car with end dump door and have metal reinforcing straps on the outside, similar to a hudson coal car. it will have roller bearings for ease of haulage and be 36" gauge. we have the wheels, axles and bearing is the shop. we need to soak the bearings and get all the old grease out, then we can order the wood and begin assembly.

Roller bearing we restored for a display. this housing attaches to a bracket that bolts to the bottom frame of the car, the axle slides into this. 1910s technology baby! :D

yea i sprayed lps 1 down the barrel, its an aircraft lube, like pb plaster but better. we make lead counter balances for the control surfaces in aircraft so i hollowed out the center and poured in 11 ounces of lead....... she went well  i even put a smiley face on it!

Nice. That is a very nice looking bearing. I'd have to say you cleaned that one up very nicely. I'd almost wonder if a sprag would stop that bad boy car once you get it rolling. You'd probably need a sprag on each wheel to stop it.

The problem is that real mine cars (ore) have solid wheels. So spraging is kind of a new thing to us..
