Well guys the official press release of the locomotive has finally been posted.

Jeffrey mine locomotive 5 ton Specifications

Year built: December 15th, 1921
Weight: 5 tons
Gauge: 36"
Voltage: 250 volt D.C.
M.P.H.: 6
Drawbar pull: 2,000lbs

Cable reel style: Allows the locomotive to basically attach an extension cable to the trolley wire on the main haulage line. The mine locomotive then can pick up mine cars on side tracks without having to install overhead trolley wire.

The locomotive originally was built for the Midvale Coal Co. in Ohio.

Ohio Vintage Coal Co. then purchased the locomotive in late 2005 from a one man mine that still had it in his mine. We removed the locomotive by actually turning the power back on and running right out of the mine. (This was probably the most thrilling job we have had to do.)

We brought the locomotive back to our shop awaiting restoration.

We were contacted by Coal Age Magazine & were offered a spot in the 2007 National Coal Show in Pittsburgh, Pa.

We were contacted in the last week of April & the show starts in the first week of June. This ment that we had not more than a month to fully restore this locomotive.

So we jumped into this project working almost 30 late nights to meet the deadline. For the grand finale our crew had to work 40 hours straight to do the final assembly. The pictures only capture a piece of the entire project.

Our restoration crew :

Mike Jedlicka
(The man that would not give up) He alone completed 75% of the locomotive.
Disassembly, component rebuilds, sanding, grinding, welding, machining, sandblasting & reassembly,

Pete Jedlicka
Moving of the mine locomotive & components, fabrication, painting & reassembly

Rob Baughman
Moving of the mine locomotive, traction motor & wheel set removal

Mike Schreiber
Installing new industry standard wiring

THANKS GUYS WE DID IT IN 30 DAYS & IT WAS A GREAT 2007 COAL SHOW!!

We were hoping that you were going to make it. It would have been a great education for you guys & a chance to see a trolley type mine locomotive. Most of the mine locomotives left in Anthracite are battery types for the most part.
