Yes, posting progress is important. I like that set of plans, makes this stuff a lot easier to build.

ok, so now as we come back to reality, i say we start work on the car next week after work. before we get the wood, we need to clean up all the roller bearings and housings. then paint the wheels, axles, draw bar, and bearing boxes. im thinking soaking the bearings in a 5 gal pail of kero. i can bring 5 gallons of jet fuel from the airport which is pretty much the same thing.

ok, so we postponed start of construction till next week. gotta get my torch tanks filled tomorrow and we cant paint anything until we torch out some bolts. so, next monday we will paint the wheels, axles and bearing assemblies. we will also disassemble the bearing assemblies and soak the roller bearings. one early problem we have is that the wheel and axle sets we have are from a hudson coal co. 30 inch gauge car. well we are building this to 36"gauge so i got different axles. problem is these axles are 2 1/2 inches in diameter and the wheels and bearings are made for 3 inch axles. so we are going to have to fabricate spacers for the wheels and bearing surfaces on the new axles. should be no problem and ill post early progress next week.
