Hey Chris, what's the story on this machine? Sorry to dig up such an old post but since the forum has been kinda slow I've been digging through the archives.

Coal cutters are my favorite mining machine. I am hoping I end up with the one from Dunlap TN in my shop for a restoration. It still has the carrier.

It sucks, there was a stack of them in Baumans scrap yard in Carbondale before it all was cut up.

It always amazes me how people can take a piece of history, no matter what kind and just destroy it.

The price of the scrap is higher than their value of the history. For me I think an old loader or a core drill would be a find.

Yep. That is what is sad. Like USS Enterprise's (CV-6) tripod mast. The Navy promised to preserve it, but what did they do? Scrapped it. Hopefully they keep their promise this time with the current Big E's island. At least the next carrier will be named Enterprise!
Also, it is like the Mexican Navy's last Fletcher-class destroyer. She was scheduled to be preserved, and a museum was raising funds to bring her back to the US, but Mexico scrapped her instead.

In this day Doug, I would consider any piece of mining equipment a good find. Old industrial equipment goes to the torch a lot faster than other things, old tractors for instance, because there is less sentimental attachment to it than grand paws old tractor. Also how many shows are there in the country where everybody brings their restored mining equipment for all to see? I know a few shoes get a couple pieces of equipment but I don't know of a show that is devoted to mining equipment. Hey maybe we should start one.

I know that there is a steam/auto show somewhere in Northern Wisconsin, and they have a few steam shovels and steam tractors, but other than that, I don't know, since I've never been to it, but a friend has.
