In 2011, IronMiners claimed Pipes Mine, an abandoned gold mine originally worked sometime after the first discovery of gold in the area in 1908. Before we staked the mine, the main adit was badly soil eroded and appeared largely forgotten. After taking possession, we cleared the mound of erosion, hauled off deteriorated wood, and exposed and then regraded the narrow gauge railroad leading into the portal. Here are two shots, before and after our rehabilitation.

Nice !!

I assume the rail was just buried in the dirt.

Sorry, no buggy. Although the track looks nice, it is not really suitable for running ore cars. It will require a bit of maintenance including driving new spikes. You would likely have to deal with more than a dozen derailments before ever reaching the ore chute! lol. The ole' wheelbarrow is the vehicle of choice in Pipes. Yes, the track leading into the portal was just hidden under the dirt.

Mike,

What was your purpose of this mine site? Do you have plans to work the adit again or just present it to tourists etc?
