A buddy of mine found this old pick head at a house he was metal detecting. Any ideas how old it might be?

One side is pointed and the other horizontally flat and pointed with an oval handle hole.

That's a coal pick. The flat end was done later. Both ends were pointed when it was used in the mines. It could be from any time period the mines were in operation. That design never really changed the whole time coal was mined by hand.
