Today adam and i went hiking around the remains of the richmondale colliery. thats where the mine motor came from. its about 10 mins from carbondale. there some ruins left and 2 powder houses. thats what we found today. we are going to go explore around there some more soon, i have to do a little measuring on the maps to find out where the shaft and slopes were exactly. we did think we found the hoist foundation for the shaft. it was in the right place but we didnt find the shaft. or any mound that would have been filled.

It was pretty cool looking around there, I have always seen that area but never took the time to explore it, there is definately something there somewhere but with no maps or pictures to go by it was kinda hard, we were probaly standing right on top of it for all we know, Plus we were runnig out of daylight and its hard to find dark holes at night for some of us you know.

Too bad also that there is no car or locomotive remains. That would have been kind of neat...

I went hiking on sunday up in forest city on the rails to trails, its an old railroad bed that they made into a recreation trail. well I walked a ways in and took a side trail by some culm piles. If you guys saw how many foundations are up there, youd go nuts trying to see them all. If we were to go up there it would take atleast a day to explore all of the foundations in this little section of woods, and the farther down the trail you walk the more stuff you come up on. I was amazed every time I turned around there was another one. We should all go up there one of these day and look around, the only thing that sucks is that its a little bit of a walk from the trail head. There are also signs the tell you where the Klondike mine was and the standin out fall which was an artesian well that was used for water for the steam lokies but hit the mine pool and is now an outfall, pretty cool stuff.
