Anyone know anything about the Dark Run Colliery at Dark Run. Its located between Wadesville and Frackville on a side road off of Rt. 61. Found the old washhouse and one slope that was pretty caved in and another that was well open. Just lookin for some information or photos of the old colliery. Thanks!

Are those the ruins that are located near Wal-Mart, behind the Gasway?

No, course I do wanna explore them to. The side road I am referring to is going up the mountain towards Frackville. There are three homes on the southbound side of 61 and they are called Dark Run. If you take the side road about a mile up you will come to the colliery site. Not sure if its Dark Run or if it goes by another name. If you keep going on the road you will come to the other side of the Wadesville Stripping Pit.

there is a pump house right where you turn on that road right? we have seen and been in that wash house just off the side of the road, and just up the hill is the ruins of a fan house with a shallow airshaft that goes into a pitching airway probably a coal chute that extends to the surface, is this what you are refering to? i have not seen any pictures of this operation, however i may have the name written down somewhere.

That sounds like the Repplier Colliery (aka Ellsworth Colliery).
There used to be a patch called New Castle there, well, a couple hundred feet north of where your talking about, but the town was stripped through sometime back in the 50’s, (i think, not sure about the date).

I drove by the wash house today & the roof has collapsed. There are a lot of trees down in the area. Looks like Reading Anthracite may be starting a new pit or expanding Wadesville.
