This might interest people.. On Tuesday March 4th at 3:00 pm, the National Geographic Channel is replaying Critical Situation: Coal Mining Disaster. They will be going in depth into the Quecreek No 1 Mining disaster when 9 miners got trapped underground after drilling into the nearby abandoned workings of the Saxman Coal & Coke Co.’s Harrison No. 2 Mine.

I did not watch it, but I hear it has some pretty good footage. Set the DVR's and Tivo's if you at work like the rest of us...

I managed to catch it today. Did anyone get it on DVD / tape?

interesting, but knowing what I know about mining made it almost rather dull... the problem is just that it was geared for people who have not a clue how coal mining (or any mining) works, so a lot of things just seemed so obvious. not to mention they kept calling the mine a damn shaft! But anyway, it was a good story. I read the book out on the disaster as told by the miners themselves. Its just a compilation of their own stories of what happened. thats really interesting. The show got into some of it but nowhere near the detail that the men talked in in the book.

i thought it was rather comical that they showed them choking as they explained they were facing lethal 17% O2 air!

I caught the last half of it.
Sounds like I have to read the book now...
But it was a good documentary nonetheless.

Banks, I don't have my tv tuner card anymore or I could've uploaded it.
:(

Yeah, I unfortunately missed it. For some reason it didn't record properly.. I'll have to see if I can figure out when it will next be on. Too bad as I did want to see it.
