Do not know all the details but a guy works in a Bituminous mine for 30 days hence the series.

Interesting point of view.

More a health / environmental spin.
--Does make it clear that Black lung still exists.

Does a great job showing how coal miners are a family above & below ground.

The mine operation is interesting:

We have not been to that operation but you can tell that coal company had taken over a large mining operation. The large mining operation mined all the coal & left the big pillars behind and the small company came back in to retreat mine.

We do have to say traveling all across WV, Va, & Ky that size coal company in that area is typical for this day in age.

Did you guys catch the cable tramway with the double wire suspension pictures. That operation is still there today in Keystone (very rare scene) We have vids & pics of that operation if anyone wants to see them.

yea the tramway was cool. i liked how they really hit on the destructiveness of mountaintop removal and although dangerous by comparison, the environmental positive side of underground workings.

Yeah that was pretty good actually. It did have some environmental spin on it (all these guys from CA tend to slant things a bit), but it was overall pretty good. The cable tramway was very neat..

They also spent a moment talking about how dangerous retreat mining is and that retreat mining was going on when the Crandal Canyon coal mine in Utah collapsed which killed a few miners. However they weren't actually doing retreat mining at that mine in Utah. That was all coal pillar bursts...

The coal mine in the show was Bluestone Coal's double bonus #65 mine. I know several people who work at this mine. I had a friend who was serously injured in this mine.

He was an electrical apprentice. He was working on the accelerator pedal while the shuttle car was on. It stuck in tram ,hurt him and killed the operator. He'll never work in the mines again.
