Hey all,

I am curious in knowing the deepest abandoned mine you have explored?

Thanks,

Chris

I haven't went too far. Anthracite mines must hold up better than our mines cause every abandoned mine I've been aroud you wouldn't want to go too far in. We've had some problems in WV about people going in old mines to steal copper.

Also keep in mind that deep isn't length. Many times you could have walked far underground, but you really are only 30, 50, or 100 feet from the surface.

I'm going to have to think about this one as I don't have an accurate answer at this point.

Well this is an interesting topic since I have been thinking about it. I think the deeper mines are more traditional safe. The question that comes to my mind is the furthest distance we have been in. For us I believe 200 ft underground & 4-5 miles distance & that is a hike let me tell you. We have been in several deeper than this.

Thats deep! I wouldn't even think about going that deep. The mine rescue team I was on has went pretty deep before but, we were constantly doing atmosphere monitoring with either a 4 gas tmx-412 or MSA solaris and had Drager Bg-17 packs on our back.

"Thats deep! I wouldn't even think about going that deep"

once you pass 6 feet down it doesnt matter anymore........

i was talking to csefcik about the mine he said he was 800 feet down in and the guy he went with grossly over estimated the depth. they were only 180 feet down, as i confirmed on the maps for him.

pete, yes it does feel strange being miles down there doesnt it? luckily theres multiple means of exit! i still want that tour of that bitty mine that the face is 25 miles underground from the prep plant!
