I am going to go taking a trip over to the anthracite area sometime in october and im trying to find some things to do in one day. Preferably things that are easy to do with vegetation still around. I've already done the 190 mine tour. Thanks-sam

If Slope 190 is the only tour in the area you know of, there are 2 others as well. I highly recommend No. 9 mine tour in Lansford (btwn Hazleton and Jim Thorpe). Went there for the first time for the picnic, had a great visit.

They have done a great job inside making the place into a tour with just a handful of people and limited time. If you only go one place, go there.

I also recommend Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland. My grandfather took me there when I was very young to show me what he used to do, so it will always be "the" coal mine to me. Been there a lot since, nice folks and nice tour.

You can do both mines in the same day, ride the Lokie at Pioneer Tunnel, wrap it all up with dinner at the famous Dutch Kitchen in Frackville and you had yourself a day.

If you're looking for stuff to get into other than the tours, I'm not the guy. But if you were not aware of the other mines, there you go.
