Has anyone put together a history with pics of the different styles of helmets?

The UGM guys or maybe Banks alone, appear to have quite a collection. It would be interesting to see the evolution.

Soft Hat
Turtle Shell
?

Also, are the prices for helmets in E-Bay typical or are they high because of a limited number that show up there? And every antique shop and flea market in the coal region has two or three for $25 each.

i know the old comfo caps, which have been coined "low vein" bring a good penny. i have a few of these, banks has a few other makes too and i know adam has a nice turtle shell. we have some old soft caps also. i guess if you put it all together its a pretty decent helmet collection.

Maybe I should have said, Banks has more camera time, in several different helmets.

The key may be the amount of camera time and not his collection.

Maybe another dumb question.

Low-vein comfo caps.

I picked one up off of E-bay, and after stripping off 4 layers of bad paint.

It is not a bad looking cap, but it does not show the typical striping. Low profile, leather suspension, but the fiber part of the fibreglass is a single piece and single layer. And the lamp cable holder is missing.

I had assumed the striping was from strips of fibreglass. Does anyone know if maybe MSA made an older helmet prior to the tiger stripe that may have been only for carbide lamps? Or maybe just a different fibreglass composition?

So If anyone has a tiger stripe look and see if the fibre pattern crosses the color bands or if the fibre changes pattern with the color or between the inside and outside.
