We're going to be giving a presentation on coal mining today versus coal mining in history at the Taylor Historical Society on Tuesday night, Oct 21. I have to confirm the time yet. All are welcome. The meeting will be held at the Taylor Public Library on Main Street (in Taylor).

usually someone is there with a camera, we will see what we can do. this presentation is going to be geared to what we have been doing for the past year.

yeah, the totally hardcore lecture on stern shafts will have to be expanded upon when brought to attention.

went really well! people were FULL of questions about the mining we're doing.. there was a serious interest in the active mining discussion. we focused on the progress we've been making at the 7 Foot Slope. Theres really no one out there that talks about active mining...especially active pitch mining, so everyone was quite intrigued with this strange practice!

Glad to hear all went well. Presentations can be fun or a nightmare. It all depends on the nature of the crowd.

Could you expand on this?

It's public knowledge that AB was out of production for at least a couple of years. ( 2005 - 2006 +). And for the past year or so the Three Musketeers have been working there, for the purpose of getting certified and getting time.

Is there more to the story?

hmm, you seem to know well....... maybe too well......... anyways, we pretty much took a bunch of tools we use, rock hammer, leg drill, coal drill with air tank to run, hand tools and then the usual presentation stuff. went over the old lamps and what not. mainly it was people asking questions as they are not familar with actual mining still being done and pitch mining at that. so far all the presentations we have done get better and better. last night we met the son of the forman at the 179 slope. he told us about how they were using a drag down there and about how those 2 mine cars got crushed in a rock fall. his father dug them out to repair but then they closed the mine before he could get to it. there were 15 guys working there. theres more, it was a great story and thats the main reason we do the presentations, for the people we meet. id say its 40% us blabbing about mining and 60% people asking questions. we have another coming up in november for the huber breaker preservation society at one of their meetings. last nights could have easily gone on for hours more. we were limited to just under an hour and a half. last time we did one, they said the scheduled program had to end but if anyone wanted to stick around and ask questions or if there was more we wanted to talk about we could. out of the room of nearly 100 not one person left! that was pretty cool.
