Greeeeg, come ooonn man, we're KILLING ourselves with this pointless war right now..and I couldn't support ANY candidate who would want to continue it. Look at history.. Every empire in history eventually overextends itself and falls. With the debt we find ourselves in, the war(s) we find ourselves in, and the looming recession...it makes one wonder if we're shortly going to be one of these 'empires" if something doesn't change!

While your candidate has had a history of wanting to surrender in the war in Iraq which we almost have completely won now, he claims to support the war in Afghanistan. So he really isn't the right candidate if you are looking to end all "pointless wars".

i might be a coal miner, but i realize coal will not always be the answer. nor gas / oil. We need clean energy. Climate change and pollution are major issues. its just a fact. So, although I agree that coal is the short term answer for cheap energy, we must start to move away from it for our major power, and make advancements in clean energy for the future. Its hard for me to say that...but its the truth.

Hmm, what happened to that "real coal miner" comment? But to the point of renewable energy, that is a valid concern of mine too. At one point there will be a time when there isn't enough oil, natural gas, coal, left on the planet to provide for the world's energy needs. Looking at alternatives needs to be done. But it shouldn't be the government mandating it when the technology is just not there yet or it is way to expensive. Right now, solar energy is way to expensive. You will never get your investment back putting solar cells on your roof. Wind, they are ugly and it will probably be difficult to harness enough wind to do any serious powering of the country. Plus they don't work too well on non-windy days. It is not a continuous power source and very expensive to build. Nuclear is the most viable solution, but Obama is against Nuclear. That is a proven technology which is probably the cleanest out there. You also have clean coal, but that is still expensive right now too (and yes, until recently he was against that too). There will be a time when alternatives come down is price and are more economical. But in a bad economy, forcing the American public to pay more for something that isn't ready yet just doesn't work.

Good on ya, Greg. Banks, looks like I'll have to sit you down and explain some things on Saturday. I have way too much going on in my head to sort it out at the moment.

There's clean coal technology that needs to be developed, which is ONE thing I'm proud of Fast Eddie for pursuing. Greg is right; Right now there is no viable alternative energy source that makes sense. There's no way solar or wind is going to provide for what we use.

This socialist president elect is going to advocate the very same things that are destroying this state... making us a business unfriendly climate, driving manufacturing and other business out of the state and taking people with them since they no longer can get a decent paying job. Meanwhile, the percentage of the population living off the government continues to rise higher and higher, putting an even larger burden on those of us who did stay (most likely because of family).

I wonder if rendell is going to look to trim fat anywhere to reduce the deficit instead of taxing us to death. Midas well start looking for another job, since I work for a mom & pop company.

Guess I did find something, eh?

;)

 We're gunna need an IM Political Board!

"While your candidate has had a history of wanting to surrender in the war in Iraq which we almost have completely won now"

...okay, not Surrender,... bring to a "responsible end." You can't fight those people. I would be willing to bet a whole lot that even if democracy succeeded in Iraq, it would soon be overthrown by all those crazy American haters (which most of them are) and a regime of terror will be back in place again, probably worse than before. What are we going to do..sit there and babysit those uncivilized bastards? Sorry for the harsh words, but seriously.... they're out of their right minds for religion.

My use of war in the plural was incorrect on my part, because I think the war in Afghanistan was perfectly justifiable... but that needs to be completed in a timely fashion also. We need to concentrate on Afghanistan, and finish the job there. Even there though, we're never going to have a perfect democracy in Afghanistan. the rebels over there have no borders.

With renewable energy, the government must promote change in energy policies somehow. Without, people will NEVER move away from dirty sources. People don't care about things until they are directly effected by them. Right now the only thing we can think about is the money we spend on our energy....and that's all people will be concerned about until they are directly effected by health issues or major climate issues that start popping up that are determined to be directly related to / caused by our nonchalant continual use of dirty energy for years and years. Even then, some people won't believe it. Everyone says "cheap, cheap, cheap... but what about the Future future future. No one cares to realllly sit down and think about it, and come up with solutions. There are ways of solving these problems... Its just that not many in the United States want to put the time and money into it because the US as a whole doesn't know what its like to have to strive for resources to survive - yet. Look at Europe, and how efficiently they run their societies. They know much better than we do with their extremely long histories of resource depletion and their need to find alternative sources. Denmark, the leader in European wind energy, is aiming to have 50% of its nation's power by wind by 2025.

My Dad and I are building a horse barn which is hopefully going to be self sufficient on its own wind energy with a windmill on the farm. (NO Electric bill....Upfront cost... about like buying a new car.) non-windy days? No problem... Storage battery! ,,, For so long, I know, but still, it works out. Any extra energy we produce with the turbine that isn't consumed by the barn the power company must buy from us.

"Wind, they are ugly"

I think they're awesome looking personally... just for what they are. Thinking about the fact that they're totally "green" and the way of the future in terms of responsible power source makes them just beautiful. I remember the first time I saw a wind turbine... It was in Portugal, and I couldn't get over how impressive and PROGRESSIVE they looked sitting on the hilltop above the town we stayed in. ...errhm...back to Europeans.

http://www.windenergyworks.org/WEWBasic ... fault.aspx

just look at our car companies going out of business because they were so near-sighted to think that the US would always have abundant, cheap fuel! Gas guzzlers. No one wants them anymore. Who came out on top? Japan. Japan (toyota) has been capitalizing on American's wonderful ability to see the future energy crisis for how many years now?? My own family owns 2 Priuses!

You guys call for cheap energy, but you fight for things that will only provoke bigger energy problems in the future! We NEED to start looking at ourselves, and instead of asking, "How can we get alllll this energy cheaper?" we MUST ask, "how can we simply USE LESS energy?" Toyota did it. Look where they stand today.

waste not, want not.

In the election of 1800, Thomas Jefferson was labeled a radical, a socialist, and a wildcard.
...he ending up winning the election, and winning again in 1804 by a landslide. (162-14, electorally)

Does anyone here doubt Thomas Jefferson today?

I found this after i wrote all that:

Good post banks. I agree we have to require cleaner energy be used and developed in order to go forward. These new energy resources will create new jobs and foster economic growth in a time we truly need it.

Isn't it funny how republican vs. democrat ideals got switched after the 1700's...

That was a good post Banks.
You may have actually given me an incentive to live! I hope I'm around 20 years from now to see if you still think the same way.

I also hope you never grow callous, as I did.

One fact still stands, we will not see the end of coal, bitty or anthracite in any of our life times. True green energy that we could get all of our power from is a long way off.
