Why do I get the idea that the operator spend as much time in court and in the mine ?

You want to be a miner?

OK . You only need 40 hours of MSHA training ...

4 Years of College

4 Years of Law School

Pass the Bar.

Then maybe you can be a miner.

Not only do you have to be a Lawyer you also have to be a:
Electrician
Welder
Mechanic
Safety Specialist
Accountant
Paramedic
Have good Anger Managment or go to Classes for it.
Have Deep Pockets so when the Feds shut you down you can eat while your in court.
Have a tongue made of kevlar so you don't bite through it when the precious MSHA inspectors are doing what they do best.
And yes you do spend a lot of time in court. If you don't it's because some other operator or the IMA is fighting a certain issue in court.

It's sad isn't it? All because two leaders of District 1 know everything about Anthracite mining and because we have been doing things the wrong way for generations here in the Anthracite. We should bow in reverence for Gods Gift to the Anthracite Deep Miners.

Back to RS & W

The Dirty Jobs segment indicated the gangway was 2500 feet . Is that straight in from the portal?

Mountain terrain makes things interesting. A half mile tunnel and nothing above but mountain. Google maps are great.

thats not where the mine is, must be the "office"

take 209 to 901 gordon nagle trail.

about a quarter mile on left (going down the road, not as seen on the map) from intersection.
