So the shaft cap on the storrs no.2 shaft failed and subsided about 300 feet deep. tony has all the particulars on this shaft im sure he will post them. pretty dangerous, didnt want to get close with all the loose silt around it and go for a bit of a ride!

There seems to be some confuson through the years which is which shaft, as the No1 and No 2 (filled) are located abot 100 yards from eachother. After further research the shaft that failed was the No 1. ( sorry Chris). This makes a big difference as you can tell from the profile. The No 1 is 773.4 feet deep. And reaches the Dunmore No 3 vein. The water pool lies at +600(winter) to +630 ASL ( spring) The shaft is 37. 5 feet in length, and 10.3 ft. in width. It consists of four compartments. From the SE to NW.
Compartment 1= pumpway 8.83 ft long
Compartment 2=hoistway 7.92. ft long
Compartment 3=hoistway 7.92 ft long
Compartment 4=airway 12.83 ft long.

I'm not sure how many people have actually been to this but go with what Chris is saying (duh). I saw this site as well and with recent rain, it wouldn't take much for the ground to give loose and you go for a nice fall.
