In Plains there are 2 tunnels that were probally part of the Prospect Colliery. Has anyone ever seen them? THey are next to the ramp for the crossvalley on River st.

Somewhat, if you look closely, its overgrown, to be honest ihavent gotten too close because of the overgrowth, but on a map I saw on ebay a few months ago of the underground prospect workings it clearly showed them, unfortunately i lost the bid on the map. the map was from 59 or 60.

you need to be on river street. same side of the expressway as the dorrance fan house, or mcdonalds. it is at the intersection of river st, and the entrance ramp to the expressway, yes it is visible from river st.

At the tunnels the "BM" painted on the side wall might mean bottom Marcy as in the coal vein of the same name?? I know that the bottom marcy was mined nearby at the ewen as well as others perhaps this was a drain tunnel for this vein.

i know where there is another tunnel that goes right under river st there and theres eve an old insulator hook up line, u can see some track ties to a narrow gauge railbed in it, its backfilled and its easy to miss, its filled in after 30 ft. but its nice.concrete supporting it all around
