This is long distance speculation, but.

190 Slope is a county run operation. Government agencies aren't likely to spend too much money on expansion of a tourist operation.

Besides as a tourist operation there always a shortage of money and an abundance of projects to spend it on.

There is also a balance between admission price and the length of the tour. Folks will be happy to pay say $15 for a hour tour, but that does not mean they will pay $30 for a two hour tour.

That doesn't even touch on mine stability or other engineering possibilities.

"so the slope you come into the mine on only goes to the tour level?"

yes, it was driven from the inside out, because it was getting too far away to haul the coal underground to the shaft in the middle of the valley where the breaker was.

and are there any levels above the one the tours on?

yes.

are there any plans to expand the tour?

no. its county run and it is what it is, and doug has this all figured out! nice place and great people, but theres a reason we spend our winters at pioneer and no.9 when lackawanna is only 10 minutes away.

ah i see, so hypothetically IF there were no collapses and water one could walk from the tour all the way to the bottom of the valley? and then the other two tours DO have plans to expand?

if 190 was not flooded below tour level you could walk the entire valley just like you could when it was operational. as for the other 2 tours, youll just have to wait and see  i can tell you alot of work was put into both and there is noticeable differences youll see this season!

you need to see them both. all 3 mine tours have something different to offer. they are all great. however next winter we will be making some major changes, improvements and expansion to no.9 but we are not going to talk about that at all. its going to be a surprise for the 2010 tour season.

Personally, I'm voting for a 2009 3-Mine Tour.

For that matter it could be a 4 or 5 mine tour.

Are you asking me or are you making a statement about yourself?

Me, Saturdays are always better. Sundays Mornings are always pre-booked.
