Anty Guys --

Are there any web links to DEP's miner training, especially Anty. I found the Bitty Power Points.

Everyone else -

I'm looking for copies of any material or websites related to new Miner Training/Part 48. Beside MSHA'a

Someone is giving thoughts to making a trip to Beckley this fall.

If been over that site but I can't find details on their requirements. I know that Pa have their own rules.

Hey Doug are you sure about that? Mike from OVCC took his miner training & completed it. They said it was good for both Ohio & Pa but not WV. It is good for one year.

Pete,

No I'm not sure. But, I was of the understanding that Pa. had their own certificates. And Anty and U/G Bitty were also different from each other. I could be mixing up miner certs with the fact that Pa. have their own mining laws.

I spoke a few months ago with the MSHA District Training guy. And he brought up the fact that MSHA has an Instructors Cert that does not require the teacher to be an experienced miner. Go figure, it's Federal Government.

Obtain a Miner cert and with an Instructor cert, a person can then teach the class.

My thoughts are to get my 40 hour U/G and an Instructors cert.. But, I'll not hide the fact that if a 40 hour Anty Cert, would also qualify as a Bitty Cert. I might consider a weeks vacation to Sunny Pa. But, I don't think there cross over.

i know you need a separate 40hr for anthracite. but anthracite 40 hr will cover you in a bitty mine in pa. even if you have your miners or foremans papers from the bitty fields even in pa they arent recognized im the anthracite and you start as a laborer.

Oh, I don't disagree from your perspective.

But, if the Anty Cert was Federal and trumped a Federal Bitty Cert.

I could come out there and get the Anty Cert and teach Bitty here.

Two birds one stone.

Brian and I were talking this evening. The regional classes are always full, about 60 students and they run monthly.

I see opportunity.

What MSHA books are used in the 40-hour Anthracite Training?

Anthracite Mining Workbook
Anthracite OJT Modules

Coal Underground part 48

Book wise I'm not sure.We watched videos on gases, miner's rights, belt, haulage safety, roof support, timbering and some others. You can see them on MSHA's video library. Also time was spent going over maps of your mine and being aware of old workings that may or may not be indicated on the maps. The coolest part was the SCSR training where we had to demonstate that we could wear the rescuer correctly in 15 seconds and walk around a empty, dark airplane hangar filled with smoke from a fogger. We used the CSE trainers for that part which have a nose clip so you have to breathe through your mouth and the canister offers some resistance and gets hot after a while just like the real SCSR.

If you can remember and have the time. Could you post the video titles from the MSHA page.

Thanks
