Eastern Illinois Basin appears to be tight at the moment.

Both Underground and Surface.

I think New Tech Mining is hiring. They have a website at http://www.NewTechMining.com. It says they need Miner Operators, Bolter Operators, Shuttlecar Operators, and Scoop Operators.

That sucks, the economy may hamper my return to the coal industry.

I work for Old Bob Murray. We haven't laid anyone off, but there is a hiring freeze til our 2nd long wall is set up at American Energy.

If you live in the ohio valley and have the exeperience its not a bad mine to work at, dry and 66" coal seam !

During the 32-Hour they mentioned that often the mines here in Indiana hire new miners through a couple of temp agencies. If they like the miner after a few months they often pick them up as employees.

Here are the two that are here in Indiana:

Custom Staffing

David Stanley Consultants have office in most Coal Fields.

Can people comment and give examples of what they're companies use for cleaning the mines? I'm curious because as a ormer miner, I'd like to give suggestions to friends of mine still in the field.

"cleaning" the mine...... are you refering to cleaning up the loose coal in places after they are cut? if so, in our mine the miner operator will cut the left side, set over, cut the right side, set back over and clean up the left, then set back over and clean up the right side... the bolter comes in to bolt the place, then the scoop man comes in to rock dust the place and pushes any loose coal left over up to the face so the miner can load it out when he comes in for his next cut.

What he's wanting to talk about is his products. He's completely off-topic and just trying to get exposure. Kinda like the telemarketer calling at 6 PM.

One mine I know of has the boltmen pre-dust before it is cleaned. They dust then after it is cleaned the scoop man will finish or use a bucket duster on 3rd shift.
