Someone mentioned pitched coal in another thread.

I worked an illegal mine in TN once that was above LaFollette right on the top of Powell Mtn. where the coal crops. The coal seam outcropped vertically. The guy was mining it like a vertical shaft hard rock mine.

Anyway, I was on a mine this week in S. OK that was recovering some steep coal. I apologize for the poor quality; batteries died, had to buy disposables. Crappy.

The coal has been removed and you're looking at the bottom. They were mining it with a track hoe. Superintendant said it was the easiest coal he's ever mined; he can get a load anytime. They were going 120' deep.

slow pitch for mike a. is anything you can drop a rock from the top rock and it has to fall at least a hundred feet in a 3 foot seem before it hits the bottom rock.......

if it falls 2 hundred feet before it hits the bottom rock its steep pitch and if it doesnt hit the bottom rock its vertical pitch

Are their any generalization about pitch between the 3 Anthracite Fields? I was thinking that Southern Field generally had a faster pitch than the other two.

Generally speaking your right doug. The pitch up north is bitty style flat except on the sides of the basin were it takes pitch. The eastern and western middle fields can take either hard, slow, or flat. And the Southern Field as a rule usually takes pretty good pitch.
