Linuxxpert, welcome to the forum! Very interesting mine and nice pictures. I especially like the cribbing and mine car. I noticed the level tunnel in slide two. Is that a main haulageway or did they use slopes?

I believe that's the main entrance. Unfortunately access to the outside has been filled in. I have been looking for maps for this mine to get a picture of the extends and the workings of the mine but have not been able to come with anything. We spend 4 hours roaming the tunnels and slopes going as far we could but I have the feeling it's much larger....

Are you from carbon county? That mine must have some good top to be holding with as must coal is outa there! judging from the iron on the top in some of the pictures i'd say sections of it are pretty dang old too........

in picture no. 12, where someones holding a walking stick, it looks like a manway...did that run all the way outside or just to a lower lever of the mine?

I am actually out of Lehigh but frequent the area. The manway you're talking about does not run outside it was a rather random short tunnel that I am sure made sense and had a function when the mine was in operation but we could not think of anything specific.
