Finished the MSHA Train the Trainer / Instructor Class this afternoon.

Now I just have to wait a couple of months to see what the great and terrible Oz says about my application.

Also, anyone here, from the Beckley WV area? I plan to be out there week after next. Looking for suggestions on sites to see.

Hey Doug I'm from near Beckley, used to work outside of Beckley. Depending on when your coming I'd go see the New River Gorge Bridge.

Along the river you have the Consol Mines, head up into Ohio and you have the Murray Energy Mines. You can always go see the old Willow grove mine site, nothing there now. I remember driving by there as a kid and seeing some old buildings and stuff, now its just a field I believe(haven't been down that way for awhile even though I live like 25 minutes away from there)

Edit. The buildings were torn down in 2000. Fits in I remember being 5-8 years old and my dad taking me down there and we walked aroudn the old buildings and he told me the story of the explosion. My grandfather lived not 8 miles from the mine. He was a teenager and he told me you could feel the explosion and all the old timers in town knew the mine had exploded

Wheeling is great ... But I'm going across on I-64 and won't be near Wheeling.

UGM.

Meet Paul Wagner from the Tremont Station. He answered a few questions.

Also meet Officer Odie in beautiful downtown Rhodell, WV. ^&%$!!!@!&&.

I guess he needed to pay for some more crime-fighting equipment, and the 27 - 8 x 10 Color Glossy Pictures.

$147 ticket for 33 in a 25 MPH Zone.

Ha!! Wow you got wacked! whats with the glossy photos though?..

Pauls a good guy... all the miners rip on him pretty hard around here, but on the other hand none of them would do that job. he loves it and hes good at it and hes anthracite allll the way! He tells the feds where to go... its pretty funny!

Alice's Resturant (Thanksgiving Day Massacre) by Arlo Guthrie is a 17 minute story/song. Set in a small Mass. town the group is busted by the local police officer for littering. Officer Odie has taken "27-8x10 Color Glossy Photos with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one... to be used as evidence against us."

I didn't get but a few minutes to talk to him. But that is pretty much what I picked up. I finally got a solid answer to my Pa. Training Question, too.

Yeah, I can't complain too much. 700,000 miles and 1 stupid ticket. It was just a cheap shot, that is what stinks. I was in the wife's Honda, to go 25 you have to be riding the brakes.

Paul seemed like decent enough guy.

PA. DEP had a display of mine sites. I asked him why they listed Pioneer and No 9 and not Lackawanna? He said it was too far apart from the others to include in a readable scale.

Yep, I used to go through Rhodell on my way to work. Could have told you what a speed trap that place is. Doesn't look like it should even have a cop. What were you doing in Rhodell not really on the way to the Mine Academy.

Now you tell me :x :x

The Tuesday session was pretty much a wash and was over about 3PM. With nothing else to do, a vehicle, Fuel, a GPS and a back-up map. I went exploring.

I passed a couple of mines NE of Rhodell, and took a couple of pics. Pocahontas Coal Co, had a pretty impressive beltway up the side of the mountain. And there was one other mine more NE, that I didn't get a good look at. Wasn't many places to pull over a look.
