Is it really true that Massey Energy's mines are really as unsafe as some people claim?

Is it also true they are anti union?

I have worked for Massey. They are safe on Paper. Safety depends on the individual management at each mine.

I think there is a tendency in the media to make more of an issue of MSHA Orders and Citations than is warranted.

MSHA rules are so detailed that even a mine that is seriously trying to be safe and comply will have a number of violations. PERIOD

It doesn't make them unsafe.

With the exception of a handful of the large companies, everyone is anti-union to a degree.

I have to think if Indiana even has a Union Mine these days.
