Chris,

Actually, yes, I have been spending a LOT of time exploring the website! Probably way more than I should since I've been doing this at work on my free time!!! Yesterday I was having a blast with the "Mines" section and looking at the slideshows of mines in different states. Very impressive, beyond cool!!!! I was especially tickled pink to see photos and info of the Mercuria and Sunflower mines in Arizona since that was an area that I was familiar with. (I used to live in Arizona).

However, I hadn't seen the section on anthracite mine flushing yet. Thanks for the link!!! I'll read about this today.

Regards,
Fred M. Cain

I think you're confusing our website with another. Ours is specifically focused on the anthracite region of pa. Click on the link above.

Yes ! ! ! ! I finally figured that out this morning! There appears to be two different organizations and associated websites sharing the "Mine Forum". The "Underground Miners" and the "Iron Miners". That is why I missed the article on "flushing" before. Both websites are great and I approve of what you are doing!!! I wish there were some way I could help.

I think it borders on criminal what they have done - and continue to do - to our historic mines. To me, a large, abandoned coal mine has as much historic significance as Grand Central Station or the Reading Terminal.

I think it's wonderful that a few mines have been "saved" and are open for tours but I also believe there is more yet to be done - a lot more!

Regards,
Fred M. Cain

Thanks Fred, yes we teamed up with the ironminers in the mid 2000s since we had similar interests and ideas, plus we are only one state away from each other. Instead of having seperate forums which would be silly, we joined up and formed this together.
