When I would ride under South Valley Ave through the Eddy Creek Tunnel, water would almost always being flowing. Then Came the muilt-millon dollar project to replace the tunnel and "Restore the natural flow" of the creek. After it was finished, I noticed very little water flowed. I fiqured it was flowing under the large rocks used to line the creek bed....NOPE! While waking the creek East of Marshwood Road two weeks ago after all that rain, the creek was flowing heavy. The cousin and I walked away from the creek and went what we thought was down-stream but no water! Completely dry! We were like WTF? Followed it upstream and there's the creek disappearing into nothing. No hole, no shaft, just into the ground. So much for that muilt-millon dollar project. Waste of taxpayers money again. So what agency would care if they were contacted about this?

just some more history there..... years ago we were in 3 mine openings there part of the olyphant colliery. all gone now from that reclamation. all 3 were within 100 feet of that bridge. one was the biggest slope in the lackawanna basin. also there was a subsidence hole that accessed the mine workings up just off of line street. workings were less than 10 feet below the street, should we go up and try to sell them mine subsidence insurance??? one of the slopes there had the worst blackdamp we have ever seen. blowing out at 16% and once you were inside, we saw 10% on the rail. needless to say it was a short trip

Ya know looking back at when we were far less " experienced" , with less common sense ( ahh the good ol days lol) we should have taken the oppurtunity to go in that subsidence/air hole :(
