From the 1949 Avoca, Luzerne county, PA Centennial Book: This is where the
photo of the Dry Bread Breaker came from which is posted on the NePa-Ancestors home page. It was located near McAlpine St.

Page 34 has the following:

DRY BREAD BREAKER AND COLLIERY.
1871--- J.H. Swoyer sank the shaft. The owners were W.H. Hollister and
C.C. Bowman. Bowman bought the shares of William Williams who was one of the
original owners.
1900 or 1905--- The breaker burned down.
As a result of this breaker the central part of town was built up
1928--- There was a breaker on this site known as the Dry Bread Breaker.

DRY BREAD BREAKER.
This breaker was owned by Wm. H. Hollister and C.C. Bowman and was
located directly west of Cherry St. across the D&H tracks and was connected with
Cherry St. by an overhead trestle. Coal moved over this trestle from a mine
drift off the northerly side of Cherry St. The breaker caught fire from a
burning culm dump and burned down.

On the 1873 Luzerne Co Atlas Map of Pleasant Valley ( Avoca ) the location
to the west of Cherry St and across the tracks would place it at "Hillside Coal
& Iron Breaker". Are they one and the same?
