hey, I just finished a pretty good book on bituminous coal and coke in PA, called "Coal and Coke in Pennsylvania"

it can be had for $9 at:

Anthracite is mentioned but the focus is on bituminous. Mining techniques and machinery, coke technology and labor unions are covered from the industry's beginnings through to the present, with a major emphasis on the period from 1880-1950's.
