For years I have heard about a shaft or maybe a slope near, behind or somewhere in the area of the old Stroehmann Bread building on Providence Road. I never looked into it more but driving past there today, I saw heavy equipment clearing the trees to the rigth of the building and a 53' flatbed truck with three large core bits, maybe 48"-60" diameter. Anyone know what and who is up to what?

Thhere rebuilding the Hoffman-Minooka line for PP&L. part of the project is steel suspension towers for the power lines. They have to drill down a bit for the ppatforms, for the tower. BUT The capped tripp shaft of the Diamond colliery is nearby. Chris and I were there. ( the ones in the housing project) For a minute you got my hopes up. :(

yea tony thats what i was thinking too about the tripp shaft. its in the "projects" there, fenced in and a concrete cap with a small screen in the center of the cap to inspect the shaft fill to see if its sinking in each compartment. prolly got pics, ill dig them up.....
