Hello, I have a Koehler 5000 series 4 volt lamp that I wanna use for coon hunting but it does not work to good it only burns for 5 minutes... The water amount is right and the charger says fully charged but I only get 5 minutes run time... It has set around for about 6 years it was my dads before he passed away... I figured if anyone would know how I could fix this light it would be the people who use them everyday thank you...

if it wont come up by a series of charges and discharges, then it sounds like youll need a new battery. if they sit for a long period of time deposits in the battery can short out the plates and kill it. sorry dude, but it sounds like this is the problem. you can search for used batteries on ebay if you dont want to spend a bunch of money on something for hunting.........

You could try real sulfuric acid electrolyte instead of distilled water. Did you refill the battery with water, or it was already full? I'm sure a real electrolyte will probably help over water, but I agree it doesn't sound good and your battery may be shot.

I used water mixed with crushed aspirin and it worked! I let it burn all night then charged all day and it lasted 1 hour 26 minutes of bright light then it got orange for another 1 hour!!! I hope the time will increase next charge :D ty all im glad I didnt give up on it... I hope it will get up to 5+ hours of good light
