thats funny that they made him take the new helmit home even though they let the other guys with the old ones go... I guess they figure the old helmits will eventually decome extinct and they let the "old timers" go, but don't bring any new ones.

It all comes down to the MSHA ruling. New unapproved caps and any modified new caps are not allowed to be worn. Nothing has been said about the old caps execpt for the fact that they can't have lace in liners.

as far as caps go, how long does a new miner have to wear a red cap for, and is this only for large mines? what if it is a 4 or 5 person operation, they all will know he is a new miner?

I guess the other question is that yes the lace liners are not allowed. And I thought you weren't allowed to used a modified cap.. That being the case, you do have to modify the old cap to use the new liner.. I guess people overlook that fact.

Yeah but its probably the guys that have been using them with newer liners for years that they overlook... but if you show up at the mine today with a newly modified older comfo cap they put the kabash on it.
