Looks like Rt. 209 is getting ready for paving on Keffers Mountain. The section where the Porter Tunnel goes under the road has a dip and you can see where the trucks with lift axles skid when they hit the dip is marked up with orange paint. A few years back they concreted pipes in from both sides of the road due to the opening sinking which caused the road to sink. After this fix the dip in the road may be gone forever if they grouted the pipes in correctly. This mine was possibly going to be re-opened about 7-8 years ago maybe more like 10 now but due to the AMD coming out and a skirmish (PADEP) with the bond money it never materialized.

yea but i dont think it was going to be opened by the tunnel. heard a slope was going to be sunk down on the other side of 209 to intersect the tunnel. right now, its all timbered up where it goes under the highway with a tube going through the middle. dont ask how i know 8)

heres a pic from years ago just after they completed the work inside the tunnel past rt 209 looking back towards the portal where it goes under the highway. it is just a tube from this point to the portal, as its all timbered up and reinforced above the tube to support the highway.
