Has everybody seen this website?

http://www.miningartifacts.org/Mining-Photo-Index.html

I actually stumbled over the Illinois page of this site first while "Googling" for the Cherry Mine:

http://www.miningartifacts.org/Illinois-Mines.html

I had absolutely NO idea that there were that many mines in Illinois! Amazing! I mean, sure, I knew there were some - I've seen them from Amtrak. But I just never thought of Illinois as a major mining state for some reason. But, I guess it was.

One time I rode Amtrak's Chicago - St. Louis line on my way west and it went past what looked like a HUGE underground mine. It looked to me like it was still being worked in the late 1980's which is when I saw it because there were long lines of hopper cars lined up waiting to be loaded.

Regards,
Fred M. Cain

HA, partially down the page on the right side is a photo titled "underground in an Illinois coal mine" that's not correct. That's in the abandoned Lehman No. 179 slope in Scranton PA. I should know, I took that photo! they must have stolen it from our website, oh well.......

That is TOO funny!!! They probably just made a mistake. If I were you, I'd e-mail them and point that out. Maybe they can fix it.

I've had a couple of my photos of the Evansville Dragline show up on You Tube. I told the guy I wasn't too happy about it. No reply.

Yea not too much you can do about it. I get a few emails a year from people asking to use our photos. I always say yes for the simple reason they had the courtesy to ask!! Our website has over 10,000 abandoned mine photos on it so guess its inevitable.
