It's being taken down somewhat piece by piece, not one just big fall......

I think they will have the rest of it down this week, or next at the latest. they are geared up to pull a big section down at any moment.....

April 24, 2014. The day the huber breaker was brought down. Unfortunately just another mine site we can say we have been to and seen destroyed. The last icon of the northern anthracite field is gone.

All that is left is the St. Nicolas breaker, and she is coming down, too.

What a terrible day it is for the anthracite region and mining history in the region. No matter how many historic structures we seem to lose each year, it seems that we never learn anything from their loss. Now that they are almost entirely gone, we are at the point where it is too late to learn anything from it. Everyone thinks about now, how to make a quick buck, or about "progress", rather than about what made us what we are.

And I can't wait to see what they will build there on site. Another Walmart perhaps, or maybe even a methadone clinic!
