Here's the full story:

Mine Subsidence Opens in Wilkes-Barre

Tuesday, August 14, 5:41 p.m.
By Sarah Buynovsky

A woman in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre said a mine shaft has part of her home literally dangling.

A mine subsidence opene right next tot he Lukachinsky home in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre.

Bonnie Lukachinsky has lived in the neighborhood her whole life and in her current house on Matson Street for 17 years now. She said she never had any problems until the other night, when she walked outside, "to retrieve a rug from my banister and I looked to my left and found the hole. I said, 'no I am not seeing this.' So I ran back upstairs and got my glasses and I thought, I talked to myself, I stood out on the porch and said, 'oh my God,'" Lukachinsky said.

Government workers confirmed her worst fears. Her home is built on a mine air shaft that's about 65 feet deep. The recent heavy rains may have caused the cave-in.

"I'm terrified. Now you think if I go to bed at night, is something else going to open up?" Lukachinsky said.

She said her neighbors are afraid after seeing the hole on her property. She added one neighbor saw it and went right next door to buy insurance.

"My neighbor above me purchased mine subsidence insurance last night right after this happened," the concerned homeowner said.

Lukachinsky added until the shaft is filled in the family has moved its vehicles from the driveway and her son, whose bedroom is above the hole, is sleeping elsewhere, or at least trying to.

The Office of Surface Mining said it will start filling in the shaft later this week but there's no guarantee the hole won't open again.

Lukachinsky said she will be buying mine subsidence insurance.

However it is on the same creek as the PR Mtn Mines. The Colliery was a little farther north.

no, i think its a different creek banksey, the one its on is the one up by the woodlands, you had go farther north up 315 by sheetz and the race track to hit that one. im not sure of the creek name but its a different one i believe.

on the news article it says they are going to fill the shaft but theres no guarentee that it wont open up again?? dont they use shaft grouting over there, drill to base of shaft and inject high preasure cement all the way to the top....works fine in england and our air shafts are up to 2000ft deep

The problem is that in order to drill to the bottem of this one theyd have to drill right through the house. The house is right on top of it  They'll dump concrete in it, but thats about it for now.
