According to the MSA website, the total life span is 15 years, with a working life of 10. Hope that helps.

Thanks. If the working life is only ten years, then why would the total life be fifteen years? I would think that after the working life had been exceeded it would be trash can time. Maybe some of the guys who have had the training can elaborate?

Theres multiple types of SCSRs.... MSAs, CSEs, and Draggers are the most common... The jist of it is the unit may be in perfect condition on the shelf for 15 years before water makes its way through the seals, but they may expect underground on a belt it would only take ten years before the unit seals would begin to fail. The other issue is the manufacturers specs don't always meet govmt specs in terms of life span... I know none of you guys are really looking to be up to govmnt active mining specs.. haha.. but just saying.
